All food is prepared fresh daily. Fruit and vegetables are brought in fresh each day. All grab 'n go sandwiches, salads, & fruit cups are made fresh each day and only have a 24 hour shelf life. Most of the baked goods offered at our dining locations are baked fresh daily.
Sodexo Campus Dining Services follows a national menu, which is on a five week cycle. Here at the University of New Haven, we make changes to the national menu in order to accommodate the needs and requests of students, faculty, and staff. Please let us know if there are menu items you would like served in addition, or in place of, the national menu. Our Executive Chefs do their best to compose menus that will satisfy all of our dining guests.
Simple Servings - Allergen Safe Dining Option - Located in Marketplace
Simple Servings is an award-winning, open-to-all, dining platform that offers fresh, flavorful meals prepared without the most common allergens, which account for 90% of all food allergy reactions. Dishes at Simple Servings are prepared without milk, eggs, wheat, soy, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, and gluten.
Simple Servings acts as a bridge to help students transition from the safety of home, where all allergens are strictly excluded, to dining on their own in an environment that requires careful attention to the choices they make. In addition, knowledgeable and attentive staff members are available to discuss ingredients and answer questions. Menus are labeled accurately and made available online and through mobile applications. By providing these enhanced resources, we want to ultimately help students learn to advocate for themselves and obtain the information they need.
We Compost
In the Fall of 2019, composting began at the Marketplace and Food on Demand. Composting has since expanded to Moe’s and WoW Café.
In 2020, the Marketplace composted 65,445 pounds of food waste. This is equal to 36,000 pounds of carbon dioxide,1,870 gallons of gasoline burnt, and 2.02 million smart phones charged! Each semester we donate leftover food to Haven’s Harvest, a local organization that re-distributes food to community members in need.
We Use One Stream Recycling in Dining Services and on the University Campus.
